Absinthe

Anyone that has been following WorcesterScene.com’s posts will know that we are fans of the Worcester Art Museum’s Third Thursday series. This year’s line-up is no exception as each month has brought some great aspects together: art, tastings (from wine to whiskey, and from coffee to chocolates), and local musicians. It is the perfect opportunity to get out into an environment rich in culture and meet some interesting new people! This month will certainly not be a month to miss. November’s Third Thursday has Jerome Cloche as the invited guest to share his fascination of absinthe, recently legalized for consumption in the United States. Absinthe has inspired artists and writers during the Belle Époque era, including Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Paul Verlaine, Ernest Hemingway, Oscar Wilde, and Mark Twain. Guests will also tour artwork from the Belle Époque and enjoy a poetry reading. This is a 21+ event. Cost is free to members, $10 for nonmembers.

Thursday, November 19, 5:30pm – 8pm

Mechanics Hall
Performance at 8PM and Free Pre-Concert Talk at 7PM

Like all genres of music, some classical music is spectacular, glorious, instills emotion, while some may not be so easy on the ears or can put one to sleep. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto #2, a/k/a the “Rach 2nd” undoubtedly falls within the former category. While many may THINK they don’t like classical music they may be surprised! Join the historic Mechanics Hall on Wednesday, November 11th at 8PM, where Yuja Wang will be performing the Rach 2nd. Ms. Wang is a rising star in the classical music world and the Rach 2nd is considered one of the most beautiful works ever written for piano and orchestra. Please contact (jsmith@bowditch.com) or the box office if interested in attending.

Sleep Alive filmed their music video, Put It On My Tab, at Union Station in Worcester.

Worcester has had some great claim to fame in the music scene—both mainstream and underground—over the past century. With some great music venues like Lucky Dog, Tammany Hall, and Palladium we’ve seen some great bands come to Worcester and ignite the stage. The music video below, found by our friends at Worcesterite.com and featured on WorcesterScene.com’s Main Stage for November, is a great use of Worcester’s iconic Union Station (home to Luciano’s) combining it with Worcester’s talent—both musically and cinematographically.
